A Living Museum

The Riverside & Great Northern Railway is a living museum dedicated to preserving and operating the superb locomotives and passenger cars built by the Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works during the period from 1950 to 1980.

History of the Museum

In 1988, a group of volunteers led by William C. Fitt formed the Riverside & Great Northern Preservation Society, Inc. and went to work to save the Sandley Works by turning it into a museum.

History of the Sandley Works

The Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works, Inc. began building 15-inch gauge equipment as far back as the 1940's.

R&GN's Locomotives and Cars

The Riverside & Great Northern has preserved historic engines and passenger cars built by the Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works during the years of its operation.

The Sandley locomotives and passenger cars form the core of our operating and rolling stock.
